What is UNICEF?UNICEF, or the United Nations International Children’s Fund, is a worldwide organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in 190 nations worldwide. The organization works in six fields: gender equality, natural disaster relief, education, innovation for children, child survival, and child protection. UNICEF started out as an emergency fund for the United Nations in 1946 to help children in war-torn Europe, China, and the Middle East and has since grown into the world’s largest charitable organization. Among other statistics, UNICEF has helped immunize 45% of the world’s children and has given 2.6 billion people access to clean water and sanitation worldwide.
